Updated 11-3-2008--The Alpine Ski Team was established at CSU in the 70’s. The ski team competes against teams such as Fort Lewis, Air Force, Colorado College, CU, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado Mountain College, Wyoming, and DU. The men’s team has qualified for regionals for the past 8 years, having the women’s team join them this past year. This last season the men also went on to nationals, placing 9th overall in the country.
The ski team does two optional camps, one over Thanksgiving break and one over winter break. Races start the third week in January and every weekend after that for 4 weekends. Each weekend has two races, one per day, for a total of 8 races. The team competes in Giant Slalom and Slalom events. Regional Championships are held at the end of February with nationals following in early March pending qualification. All ability levels are welcome and if you’ve earned USSA points in the range of 125-200 you will be competitive. Tryouts are only necessary if there are too many skiers and have not been necessary in recent years.
Team dues are typically between $400 and $500 which include lodging, tickets, and race entry fees for all races. Food and transportation are the racers responsibility, although, the team carpools to all races. All racers will need to get a USSA license that will be explained and purchased in the fall. The first informational team meeting will be held in September.
